Graphic Illustration Book: LOST IN BRISTOL
A series of narrative illustration try to introduce the city of Bristol by visualizing a relationship between a human and an animal(a stray dog/mongrel). I am trying to express my deep impressions of the city through my personal observations, experiences and explorations. I focused on exploring the areas of culture, people, lifestyle and events that reflect the authentic lifestyle in Bristol. The story begins the moment I land at Bristol airport and happen to meet a dog there. The dog‘s character will be portrayed as my ‘FOC* tour guide’. As the story develops, the relationship and interaction between the characters will get closer and better. In a similar way, the impressions and feelings regarding the city become deeper and more vivid. I am leaving the story open-ended, which means that there’s ‘LOTS’ more waiting to be explored and discovered in this lovely city-Bristol.

Lost Sketches (I, II & III)
These ‘lost sketch’ illustrations form a narrative. "Lost Sketches I" was created with curves, lines and dots. The eccentric, irregular shapes and forms convey the struggling and confused emotions in today’s society towards analog and digital media. As in the art scene today, boundaries are crossed from the analog universe into a digital world.
In "Lost Sketches II", the eccentric and irregular shapes flow and wrap the entire space as a metaphor of the union of analog and digital, which will capture the vast public attention. While the last sketch (Lost Sketches III) is a metaphor of how analog and digital enables the world to see and experience the wonderful. The union in "Lost Sketches III", depicted as a ‘flying butterfly’ in a ‘Rorshach Inkblot’ is a metaphor for a better future for the mixture of both the analog and digital worlds. I am inviting the audience to consider whether a piece of art which combines hand-drawn and digital elements can be recognised as such?
‘Yellow’ color is used to reinforce the “In” and “Out” between the analog and digital world. And the ‘idea’ is all about the conceptual framing of it.
The illustration entitled “Lost Sketches” – explores the distinction between the analog and digital world in art. For every person that views these sketches, he or she may discover this lost (hand-drawn or digital sketch?) This introduces a new understanding that while technology provides us with wonderful creative tools, we can still appreciate a traditional process: the materials and handwork. Technology extends the possibilities.

Cloverleaf Oneirism
The irregular forms and shapes of the building convey the imbalance, conflict and contradiction in today’s society. A ‘flying man’ in a cloverleaf motif trench coat reinforced the love, hope and luck that resides in the human heart and metaphorically depicts man’s inner desire for creating harmony in the universe.
To me, hope of ultimate justice is equal to a hope of balance and harmony!
